Fishing in the area of Žitište has a long tradition of sports fishing. River Begej and the canal of Begej flow through Žitište. Apart of the rivers which are rich with different sorts of fish there are artificial lakes which are suitable for sport fishing. The lakes are near the settlements of Žitište, Banatski Dvor, Čestereg and Novi Itebej. The fish ponds are owned by the sport fishing organizations which issue licenses for daily or annual fishing for sports fishing. The water is rich with these fish: white fish, carp, pike, sheatfish (catfish) and many other.
