The Ruthenian National Theatre “Đađa” was established in 1971 as the Amateur Ruthenian Theatre “Đađa,” with two stages: one in Ruski Krstur and one in Novi Sad. It operated under this name until 1991, when it was renamed the Ruthenian National Theatre “Đađa.” In 2003, the theatre was transformed into a professional institution, and to date it has staged more than fifteen professional productions, with work currently underway on its eighteenth project.
On its stages, the theatre cultivates a repertoire ranging from classical and folkloric drama to experimental, chamber, and puppet theatre, depending on production conditions. Over time, its repertoire has included works from world classics to domestic drama and comedy. Among more than 120 premieres, works by Molière, Brecht, Gogol, Nušić, Sremac, Pekić, Chekhov, Kolyada, Papharhaji, Udovički, Kovač, Ostrovsky, Kanjuh, and many other authors have been performed.
In addition to over 120 premieres, the theatre has staged more than 3,200 repeat performances, seen by over 400,000 audience members.
