DANUBE

DANUBE

The Danube, the longest river in Europe, flows through four capital cities: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade. Along its course through Serbia, which stretches for 588 kilometers, the Danube passes through the picturesque plains of Vojvodina for 370 kilometers. Its main tributaries in Serbia include the Tisa, Sava, Tamiš, Morava, Nera, and Timok rivers. The Danube is also the most important navigable waterway in Europe and attracts many tourists with its natural beauty. Thanks to its popularity in the cruising sector, the Danube represents a significant tourism potential for both Serbia and the entire Vojvodina region.

For history enthusiasts, the Danube offers a wealth of cultural monuments and archaeological sites. Cities like Novi Sad and Sremska Mitrovica, with their fortresses, museums, and ancient remains, provide insight into a diverse past that spans thousands of years. Visitors can explore the remnants of Roman settlements, medieval fortresses, and baroque palaces—immersing themselves in stories of past eras and the cultures that have shaped this region.
