FRIC-HRISTIĆ CASTLE – Bačko Novo Selo

FRIC-HRISTIĆ CASTLE – Bačko Novo Selo

Fric-Hristić Castle is located in Bačko Novo Selo, a settlement within the municipality of Bač, situated on the very bank of the Dunav. The village has been devastated and flooded several times throughout its history.

The Fric–Hristić Castle was built in 1900 by two families, Hristić and Fric. It is located at the corner of Josif Pančić and Vuk Karadžić Streets in Bačko Novo Selo. At the turn of the two centuries, these families constructed a magnificent residence intended as a representative home. One part of the castle belonged to the Fric family, of Jewish origin, while the other part belonged to the Hristić family from Bačka Palanka, of Serbian origin.

In its original form, the building had a different appearance; its present-day look is the result of later adaptations carried out after the Second World War. The castle was built in the Neoclassical style. The structure originally consisted of two sections, which did not differ significantly in architectural terms. The remaining part of the building visible today has undergone minor alterations, but its basic appearance has largely remained the same. It was constructed in a simple manner, with minimal use of decorative elements on both the exterior facade and in the interior.
