Novi Kneževac

At the northernmost point of Vojvodina, along the borders with Hungary and Romania and on the banks of the Tisa River, lies the municipality of Novi Kneževac, comprising the settlements of Banatsko Aranđelovo, Srpski Krstur, Đala, Majdan, Rabe, Podlokanj and Filić. Formerly known as Turska Kanjiža, Novi Kneževac has a long history and has played an important role in the development of this border region. Today, it is a peaceful Pannonian area known for paprika processing, which has earned it the nickname “the Leskovac of the north”. The Tisa River, numerous fishponds, picnic areas and rich hunting grounds provide a basis for the development of fishing, hunting and recreational tourism. The area’s unspoilt nature, peaceful landscapes and opportunities for relaxation along one of Vojvodina’s most beautiful rivers are among its particular attractions. The Monument to the Fallen Fighters in the park on the banks of the Tisa, created by sculptor Aleksandar Zarin, is one of the city’s significant cultural landmarks. Thanks to its proximity to international borders and good transport connections, Novi Kneževac is an appealing destination for travellers, nature lovers and anyone wishing to discover northern Banat.
