Šid

The Municipality of Šid is located in the westernmost part of Srem, on the border with Croatia, between the southern slopes of Fruška Gora and the fertile plains of Srem. Thanks to its six border crossings and favourable location, it is an important transit gateway to Serbia, while also being an attractive destination for lovers of nature, culture and wine. Its rich tourist offering is complemented by Privina Glava Monastery, the renowned wine cellars of Erdevik, the hunting grounds of Morović, Vorovo and Vranjak, as well as the Sremski Front Memorial Park. Šid is inseparably linked with the great Serbian painter Sava Šumanović, whose works and authentic family home are preserved at the Sava Šumanović Gallery, one of the most significant art collections in Serbia. A special place in the cultural offering is held by the Ilijanum Museum of Naïve Art, dedicated to Ilija Bašićević Bosilj and the unique expression of Serbian naïve art. The area surrounding Šid is also home to the grave of Filip Višnjić in Višnjićevo, valuable religious heritage sites and archaeological sites that bear witness to the long history of the region. The combination of art, winemaking tradition, the natural beauty of Fruška Gora and a rich cultural and historical heritage make Šid one of the most intriguing tourist destinations in western Srem.
