SAILING ON THE DANUBE

The Danube (German: Donau, Slovak: Dunaj, Hungarian: Duna, Ukrainian: Dunaj, Romanian: Dunăre, Turkish: Tuna) is the longest river in the European Union and the second-longest river in Europe, after the Volga. It rises in the Black Forest, where the smaller rivers Breg and Brigach meet near the town of Donaueschingen. The Danube is approximately 2,850 kilometres long and flows through several Central European capital cities before emptying into the Black Sea via the Danube Delta in Romania and Ukraine. The Danube is a major transport corridor (Pan-European Transport Corridor VII). It is the only inland waterway among the ten Pan-European transport corridors. The river flows through Serbia for 588 kilometres, from Bezdan to the Timok River. Of this length, 137.6 kilometres form a shared section with Croatia and 299.35 kilometres with Romania.
