HISTORICAL ARCHIVE “SOMBOR” (PASHA’S TOWER AND KRUŠPER’S HOUSE) – Sombor
Početna / Experiences / HISTORICAL ARCHIVE “SOMBOR” (PASHA’S TOWER AND KRUŠPER’S HOUSE) – Sombor
Pasha’s Tower is the oldest preserved city building, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century. It is believed that after the conquest of Sombor in 1541, the Turks modified and expanded the former Coborsenmihalj Fortress. The tower has retained its original appearance and, together with the Krušper House, forms a unique historical ensemble.
Krušper House was built in 1771 by Paul Krušper de Verbo as a single-story rectangular palace in the late Baroque style. Today, the building houses the Historical Archive of Sombor, preserving archival materials over three centuries old.
The Historical Archive “Sombor”
was established in 1948. Its jurisdiction covers the city of Sombor and the municipalities of Kula, Apatin, Odžaci, and Bač. The archive holds 558 collections and fonds, covering the period from 1612 onwards. Among these, 29 collections are classified as cultural heritage of exceptional importance, and 74 collections as cultural heritage of great importance.
The most valuable document preserved in the archive is the original Charter of the Free and Royal City of Sombor from 1749, bearing the signature and seal of Empress Maria Theresa.
