„TERRA“ MUSEUM – Kikinda

 „TERRA“ MUSEUM – Kikinda

The Terra Museum in Kikinda opened in December 2017 in the former riding hall of the Kikinda military barracks. Its establishment fulfilled a long-standing vision of Professor and sculptor Slobodan Kojić, founder of the International Symposium of Terracotta Sculpture Terra, to create a permanent home in Kikinda for works produced during the symposium.

The building was acquired from the Serbian Armed Forces and converted into a museum to a design by architect Aranka Blat, while preserving its original architectural character. Reconstruction began in 2012 and was completed in 2017, with support from national, provincial and city institutions, as well as other donors.

Covering approximately 2,100 square metres, the museum is designed to accommodate large-scale sculptures. Its exhibition features works by Serbian and international artists, displayed without strict divisions based on period, nationality, subject matter or artistic style. This approach allows visitors to explore a variety of artistic expressions and discover the development of terracotta sculpture.

The permanent exhibition is periodically updated and expanded. The Museum’s collection currently comprises approximately 1,000 terracotta sculptures. The Terra Museum is an important centre for the preservation, exhibition and study of contemporary sculpture in this medium.
