“TIKVARA” NATURE PARK – Bačka Palanka

“TIKVARA” NATURE PARK – Bačka Palanka

Tikvara Nature Park is situated along the left bank of the Danube, extending from river kilometre 1,297 to kilometre 1,305. The protected area is dominated by forests of softwood deciduous trees, while the landscape is interlaced with Danube side channels and marshland. In addition to Tikvara, the park’s principal aquatic ecosystem, it contains an artificially planted stand of bald cypress, protected as the Natural Monument ‘Artificial Stand of Bald Cypress’ (Protection Category III).

This natural monument is a rare botanical feature in this part of the world, possessing exceptional aesthetic and scientific value. Together with four plane trees, it represents an invaluable natural asset. The extent of the floodplain varies constantly depending on the water level of the Danube. Although Tikvara serves as a natural fish spawning ground, fluctuations in water levels also affect how long certain fish species remain in the flooded area, as well as their migration back into the main channel of the Danube.

Most of the area is managed by the public enterprise Vojvodinašume, Bačka Palanka Forest Administration. Tikvara Nature Park itself is managed by the public enterprise Tikvara Sports and Recreation Centre, based in Bačka Palanka.

BEACH

Tikvara Beach is the largest beach in Bačka Palanka. It occupies an exceptionally attractive location, with Lake Tikvara to the north and the Danube to the south. Its size and setting make it the most popular beach in the area during the summer months. Connected to the mainland by a small bridge, it is effectively an island in the river.

FISHING

Tikvara is the Danube’s largest wintering ground for coarse fish. Its waters are rich in carp, large pike, zander, catfish and many other fish species. The Šaran (Carp) Angling Association, together with the local nautical club, plays a central role in developing both the area’s boating facilities and its fishing tourism.

A fishing permit costs 1,800 Serbian dinars. For further information, contact:
