On the banks of the Tisa River, at an important historical crossroads between Bačka and Banat, lies Senta, one of the oldest towns in the northern part of Serbia. It was first mentioned in written records in 1216, while its history is particularly marked by the Battle of Senta in 1697, one of the most significant victories over the Ottoman Empire. Over the centuries, the town experienced turbulent events, and following a major fire in 1769, it was rebuilt and continued to develop. Today, Senta attracts visitors with its well-maintained riverside promenade along the Tisa, vibrant cultural life, museum, archive, schools and renowned artists’ colony. Its cultural and historical monuments, religious buildings and numerous events preserving the traditions of this multicultural town are of particular value. The area surrounding Senta offers opportunities for fishing, hunting, spending time in nature and discovering the diverse flora and fauna along the Tisa. Thanks to its rich history, cultural heritage, developed culinary scene and tradition of rose cultivation, Senta is an appealing destination for those who wish to discover authentic Vojvodina towns.
