“KARAČONJI” CASTLE – Novo Miloševo

“KARAČONJI” CASTLE – Novo Miloševo

It was built in 1857 by Lajoš Karačoni on his estate in Beodra (today a part of Novo Miloševo) as a representative residential building that, through its spatial layout, volume, and architectural design, occupies a dominant position within the spacious park. Architecturally, it is designed in Neoclassical style. It has an elongated rectangular ground plan and consists of a ground floor and an upper floor. The main facade is designed symmetrically, with shallow corner risalits that end in pediments. The central part of the facade is emphasized by a deep portico, supported on the ground floor by columns with a rectangular cross-section, and on the upper floor by Corinthian columns with an architrave, a plain frieze, and a triangular pediment.

The ground floor is separated from the upper floor by a horizontal cornice. The windows are positioned within fields between pilasters, which on the ground floor have Ionic capitals and semi-circular stepped pediments, while on the upper floor they feature Corinthian capitals and straight-profiled pediments resting on decorative consoles above the windows.

In the immediate vicinity of the castle, within the estate there are stables, storage facilities, barns, and servants’ quarters. Together with the main castle building, they form an architecturally and stylistically unified and well-balanced complex. Conservation works were carried out in 1980, 1985, and 1991.
