Titel

Titel

Titel is one of the oldest settlements in Bačka, strategically situated between the Danube, Tisa and Begej rivers, at the foot of Titelski Breg. Its rich history dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by the remains of former fortifications, while the settlement itself was first mentioned in written sources as early as the Middle Ages. Throughout its history, Titel was ruled by various states and prominent rulers, and in the 18th and 19th centuries it became the headquarters of the Šajkaš Battalion, traces of which can still be seen in the town today. Of particular value are its Orthodox churches, which house works of art by notable Serbian painters, including Arsa Teodorović and Dimitrije Popović. Titel’s natural surroundings, with its rivers, canals and vast plains, offer excellent opportunities for fishing, spending time in nature and day trips. Nearby Mošorin was the birthplace of Svetozar Miletić, one of the most prominent political leaders of the Serbs in Vojvodina, and the writer Isidora Sekulić, whose literary work left a lasting mark on 20th-century Serbian literature. Today, Titel is a peaceful town on the Pannonian plain, offering visitors a combination of rich history, military heritage, art and the authentic landscape of Šajkaška.
