Odžaci

In the western part of Bačka, not far from the left bank of the Danube and the border with Croatia, lies the Municipality of Odžaci, comprising nine settlements characterised by rich cultural and traditional diversity. The first mention of Odžaci dates back to the 16th century, when the settlement was recorded in Turkish sources, while over the following centuries the area was shaped by the arrival of different peoples and cultures. Today, this is a peaceful part of Vojvodina, known for its fertile plains, well-developed agriculture and unspoilt natural surroundings. The canals of the Danube–Tisa–Danube Canal System along with numerous small lakes formed in the aftermath of major floods of the Danube, and rich fishing grounds are of particular interest to lovers of active holidays. The area around Odžaci also offers excellent opportunities for hunting tourism, especially for those interested in small game hunting, as well as for recreation by the water. The Donja Branjevina archaeological site, home to the famous Neolithic figurine known as the “Red-Haired Goddess”, bears witness to thousands of years of continuous human habitation in this area.
