BELA CRKVA LAKES – Bela Crkva

Thanks to its seven lakes, Bela Crkva is often referred to as the “Town of Lakes.” Formed through gravel extraction, these lakes have become one of the municipality’s main tourist attractions.

Viewed as a whole, the Bela Crkva Lakes are characterised by stable shorelines and only minor fluctuations in water levels. Their morphometric and thermal characteristics make them highly suitable for the development of recreational, excursion, event-based and sports tourism. Owing to their rich fish stocks and diverse birdlife, they also offer strong potential for angling and birdwatching tourism.

The high degree of environmental heterogeneity supports a wide range of species, from those inhabiting aquatic environments, meadow and forest plant communities, to species typical of urban ecosystems. All of this creates a distinctive sense of diversity, uniqueness and landscape attractiveness for visitors.

Because of their characteristics, the Bela Crkva Lakes are often referred to as the “Pearl Necklace of Banat.”

The lakes are directly connected to the urban area of Bela Crkva and, through their potential, complement the tourism offer of the Deliblato Sands Special Nature Reserve in a complementary way.

The most popular among them are City Lake, Vračevgaj Lake, Šaran Lake, and Šljunkara Lake.

These lakes are also suitable for fishing. The dominant fish species include carp, Prussian carp, and pike.
