MUSEUM EXHIBITION OF WHEELWRIGHT AND BLACKSMITH WORKSHOP – Bačka Topola

MUSEUM EXHIBITION OF WHEELWRIGHT AND BLACKSMITH WORKSHOP – Bačka Topola

The former wheelwright and blacksmith workshop of the Egri brothers, once highly regarded in the town, is now a rarity, as these two crafts have nearly vanished. However, the blacksmithing and wheelwright trades had a long tradition in Topola since the 18th century. It is known that in the 1940s there were still forty blacksmith workshops operating in the town. Carts made in Topola were popular throughout the region, and the local blacksmiths were renowned for their expertise. One type of cart, distinguished by its characteristic iron decorations, became known as the Topola cart.

Today, the interior of the blacksmith and wheelwright workshop is open to visitors, and a well-preserved black carriage is on display. The site is accessible to the public from spring to autumn, while visits can also be arranged year-round by prior agreement.
