BANAT ROOM – Bela Crkva

BANAT ROOM – Bela Crkva

The Banat Room was established in 2012 by Dositej Obradović Plus School with the aim of preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of the region, while also contributing to the tourist offerings of Bela Crkva. The museum presents a permanent exhibition that provides a synthetic overview of the multiethnic history of the area. The displayed objects reflect the coexistence and cultural interweaving of various communities in South Banat.

Members of this association plus focused particularly on collecting ethnographic objects. The core of the exhibition is arranged into three main sections: a kitchen with a washbasin, a bedroom with a library, and a workspace. The collection includes traditional costumes and textiles, carpets, furniture, household tools and utensils, samples of homemade linen, embroidered sheets and towels, pillowcases, skirts, aprons, embroidery and lace samples.

Significant parts of the collection include old books in Romanian, historical paintings, lighting instruments, and kitchenware. All items were collected from the Bela Crkva municipality in South Banat, a region known for its ethnic diversity, giving the exhibition a distinct multiethnic character.

The collection highlights the rich and vibrant past of Bela Crkva and its people, their customs, and everyday life. The exhibition aims to inspire younger generations to appreciate Bela Crkva as a multicultural hub shaped by the influences of Slavs, Germans, Hungarians, Romanians, and Turks.

Plus School seeks to give the public an opportunity to explore aspects of the cultural and historical heritage, fostering individual understanding of the material and spiritual culture of the local population.

Every year, in cooperation with the local Cultural Center,  this association participates in the national traditional event “Museum Night”. The Banat Room also hosts workshops for children and youth, cultural events, and its signature annual program “Bela Crkva – The City in Four Languages”, an interactive language workshop teaching Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, and German.

For the past ten years, the Banat Room has regularly offered Czech language courses with instructors from the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the National Council of the Czech National Minority.
