STARČEVO HISTORY MUSEUM – Starčevo

STARČEVO HISTORY MUSEUM – Starčevo

Starčevo History Museum at the “29th November” Cultural Center was founded in 2020 with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of this area, which dates back to the Neolithic period, i.e., the late Stone Age, when the world-famous Starčevo culture emerged (6200–5500 BCE).

The museum consists of three sections. The largest is the educational and exhibition display “Starčevo Through the Ages”, which presents 7,500 years of continuous life in the Starčevo area, with special emphasis on the Neolithic period and the Banat Military Frontier. In the museum gallery, visitors can view the exhibition “Neolithic Culture and My World”.

In the museum courtyard, there is a replica of a Neolithic settlement consisting of four semi-subterranean Neolithic houses (pit-houses) and a wheat field. In the largest pit-house, a scenography recreates the life of a four-member family from the Starčevo culture period. Visitors can rest in the peaceful and quiet museum gift-shop gallery, which has a terrace overlooking the Neolithic settlement replica.

Guided tours are available for both individual and group visits, with free admission. The Starčevo Museum is located 10 km from Pančevo, 20 km from Belgrade, 30 km from Kovin, and 40 km from Smederevo.
