KRUŠEDOL MONASTERY

Krušedol Monastery, the endowment of the Srem branch of the Branković family, was built between 1509 and 1512 by Bishop Maksim (Đorđe) Branković, son of Despot Stefan the Blind and Angelina, and grandson of Đurađ Branković of Smederevo. The monastery church is dedicated to the Feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos.

The monastery is widely known for its library. Krušedol Monastery is often referred to as the Serbian Pantheon, as many notable figures are buried there, including Patriarch Arsenije III Čarnojević, Patriarch Arsenije IV Jovanović Šakabenta, Princess Ljubica, wife of Prince Miloš Obrenović, King Milan Obrenović, and many others.
