EUROVELO 6 – FORTRESS ROUTE – Bač

This route covers a total distance of 35 km and is classified as easy. The surface consists of asphalt, the terrain is flat, and cycling is possible throughout the entire year. The route partly uses public roads.

The route starts from the village of Živa and branches off towards Bođani. It continues to the “Čarda Ranč” restaurant with accommodation, and then to the Bođani Monastery, dating from 1478.

The route then leads towards Bač and its fortress. The fortress was built between 1338 and 1342 on an island formed by a meander of the Mostonga River. It was part of a “water town” defensive system, surrounded by water on all sides and accessible via drawbridges. At the time, it was one of the largest fortresses in the entire Pannonian region.

Another important site is the Franciscan Monastery, originally built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century and taken over by the Franciscans in the early 14th century.

The final destination is Bačko Novo Selo, where the route connects to the Danube cycling corridor – EuroVelo 6.

Organized guided tours are held only during the “Ciklobač” event, organized by the Tourism Organization of the Municipality of Bač for the past 10 years in June. The event promotes recreational cycling and partially follows this route.

The route is partially marked and includes sections of public roads.
