ETHNO HOUSE IN RATKOVO – Ratkovo

In an old priest’s house in Ratkovo, a Serbian–German ethno house was opened under the organization of the Germans’ Association of the Odžaci Municipality. In this ethno house, visitors can see old Parabutsch costumes that young girls used to wear on Sundays.

The Serbian–German Ethno House in Ratkovo was officially opened in August 2012. It is located at the very center of Ratkovo, across from the Catholic Church of St. John Nepomuk. The house once served as a parish office, and today it houses several thousand exhibits illustrating the way of life, culture, and traditions of both Serbian and German residents. The exhibits mostly date from the first half of the 20th century, with a particularly valuable collection of Danube Swabian costumes, which can now only be seen in the Parabutsch Germans’ Heritage Museum in Bad Schönborn.

In addition to the section of the exhibition dedicated to the Germans of Ratkovo, one room is furnished with authentic pieces of furniture, clothing, and everyday household items that were an integral part of every Serbian home in Ratkovo. The collection of these ethnographic items, which also represents a valuable ethno collection, was gathered thanks to the efforts of the Women’s Association “Parabuć” from Ratkovo.
