“ŠLOS” CASTLE – Golubinci

The castle was built according to the design of architect Florijan Madocsnui in 1777. It was constructed for the families of officers of the Military Frontier as the “Administrative Building in Golubinci,” as stated in the building’s project. In terms of purpose and architectural concept, the building can be classified as a specialized structure designed for military use or as housing for officers temporarily assigned to this military command.
Both the interior layout and the exterior appearance, including finishes and details, possess all the characteristics of Military Frontier architecture. The castle is a free-standing, two-story building with a rectangular base. The interior space appears monumental due to the stone railing on the staircase. Except for the stone frames around the doors and windows, the facade is executed in plasterwork.
In addition to its architectural value, the castle also has historical significance, as revolutionary leader (vožd) Karađorđe Petrović stayed there in 1813. The building has been adapted several times but its fundamental concept has not been compromised. The most recent restoration began in 2007. The castle is a cultural monument of great importance.
The castle can be visited by prior arrangement.
