ROHALJ BASE – Sviloš

During the Second World War, this site served as a refuge for local civilians who had fled from Svilosh, Ležimir, Divosh and other villages on Fruška Gora to escape Ustaše terror. It was also the site of a permanent Partisan base, a complex of dugouts with workshops for repairing weapons, and a gathering point for transferring Partisan brigades to liberated territory in eastern Bosnia. The name derives from the surname of a family from Divosh, on whose land the Partisans gathered. During the war, the entire area stretching from Rohalj Baze to Letenka and Jabuka was liberated territory.

The memorial house that stands here today was built in 1972. It once housed various documents and exhibits relating to the departure of Vojvodina Partisans for the front. The memorial complex, comprising a museum building and a Partisan cemetery, was designed by Milorad Berbakov. Today, the building houses a traditional restaurant, while most of the exhibits have been transferred to the Museum of Srem in Sremska Mitrovica.
