TIKVARA BEACH – Bačka Palanka

The water is warm and shallow, making it ideal for children and allowing parents to keep an eye on them. As the water level is low, there is plenty of room for everyone. The Tikvara Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre has provided fountains, spaced at reasonable intervals, showers, bins and changing cabins. The small sports courts have been restored following the high water levels, and the beach has been ploughed. Here, between two bodies of water, the lake and the Danube, tables and benches have been set up, providing a place to relax, have a bite to eat, cook something in a traditional cauldron or fire up the barbecue. Some families camp here for a few days. The beach has many regular visitors. They say that swimming in these waters may not be considered fashionable by some, but they are perfectly happy here. Apart from ice cream, watermelons, boiled sweetcorn, cold beer and soft drinks, everything else is free. The water level is low, and the flow beneath the bridge connecting the lakeside beach to the area where the old ferry crossing and the old Dunav Inn are located has stopped. A few hundred metres upstream, near Popova, water is still flowing into the lake, albeit slowly, but sufficiently to allow the many boats to travel between Tikvara and the Danube and back.
