PETKOVICA MONASTERY – Šišatovac

PETKOVICA MONASTERY – Šišatovac

The monastery is located in the southwestern part of Fruška Gora, between the villages of Divoš and Šišatovac. The monastery church is dedicated to St. Petka. According to tradition, the monastery was founded in the first quarter of the 16th century by the widow of Stefan Štiljanović, Despotissa Jelena. The first reliable records date from 1566–1567.

The church has retained its original appearance to this day, except that the wooden bell tower was replaced with a stone one in the second half of the 18th century. The church is decorated with frescoes painted in 1588. The iconostasis, erected in 1735, was destroyed during World War II. Today, the monastery complex consists of the church and a newly built konak. The church has been restored, and a road and a fishpond have also been constructed.
