FIŠER FAMILY SUMMER RESIDENCE – Ruma

FIŠER FAMILY SUMMER RESIDENCE – Ruma

The summer residence was built between 1900 and 1904 by the Fišer family, based on a design by the architect Herman Bole. The residence was intended as a retreat for the Fišer family. It is situated in a spacious park, which featured a variety of native and exotic plant species.

The building is a representative example of this type of structure, where wood, reeds, and other traditional materials were fully utilized. In 1966, the summer residence was destroyed by fire. It was subsequently rebuilt, but not according to conservation principles, which resulted in a loss of authenticity—particularly regarding the reed-roof, which gave the building its distinctive character.

In terms of composition, original function, and use of materials, the building remains a unique example of the diverse stylistic characteristics of summer residences in Vojvodina. The designed park reflects the historical era in which it was created, although many of its original features have been lost due to years of neglect. Century-old trees, such as oak, ginkgo, and occasional conifers, remain as reminders of the past.

Although it has lost some of its authenticity, the building is registered as a cultural monument of great importance.
