CULTURAL CENTER “29. NOVEMBAR” – Starčevo

The Cultural Center “29th November” in Starčevo was established on January 30, 1961, by the decision of the People’s Committee of the Municipality of Pančevo.

Within the Cultural Center “29th November,” the following civic associations operate, work, and contribute to program creation: KUD “Neolit,” “Creative Cultural Club,” Women’s Association “Neolit,” Hunting Association “Jarebica,” Beekeepers’ Association, Rugby Club “Borac,” Basketball Club “Borac,” Basketball Club “Neolit,” Scout Troop “Nadel,” and the Pigeon Fanciers’ Association. In addition, the Center hosts four sections: the “Neolit” Tamburitza Orchestra, a Music Section, a Table Tennis Section, and the Art Workshop “Pera Poljak.”

The Cultural Center maintains active collaboration with the primary school “Vuk Stefanović Karadžić” in Starčevo, planning and organizing numerous events throughout the year. Its library has an extensive collection of books and over a thousand members of all ages who visit the institution daily.

In its rich program offering, the Center organizes literary evenings, musical-theatrical performances, public forums, and visual arts exhibitions, the most notable being the ”Boem” Gallery, which for nearly thirty years has hosted exhibitions of domestic and international academic artists.

Among its special festival programs, the Cultural Center “29th November” offers:

  • ”Starčevo Book Days” – a multi-day thematic literary festival featuring numerous literary evenings and lectures, along with a book fair. Held annually in April, each edition is dedicated to a domestic or international writer, after whom the plaza in front of the Cultural Center and the library are symbolically named.

”Days of Gathering” – a multi-day festival held between July 30 and August 10, spanning Ognjena Marija (the town’s patron saint) and St. Pantaleon (church feast). This summer program also features the ”Ex-Yu Rock Fest”, a two-day rock concert with legendary bands and performers from the former SFRY, as well as emerging local bands. All summer programs take place on the open-air stage at Neolit Square and the plaza in front of the Center, accounting for about 60% of the festival program. Other programs are organized by associations, organizations, businesses, and individuals in Starčevo.

International Festival of Small and Medium Tamburitza Ensembles – “Starčevačka Tamburica” – one of the most important festivals of its kind in Serbia. Strictly defined and authentic, this competitive festival is exclusively for tamburitza and accompanying string instruments, held on the last weekend of October in the Center’s large hall.

”International Acoustic Guitar Festival – “Gaša’s Chords” – organized by the “Creative Cultural Club” every December in the Center’s facilities. This memorial festival is dedicated to the late musician and Starčevo artist Dragan Dimitrijević – Gaša and is competitive in nature.

Since 2020, the Cultural Center “29th November” has also featured the educational-exhibition program ”Starčevo Through the Centuries”.
