PUBLIC LIBRARY – Pećinci

The Public Library in Pećinci was founded in 1972, with branches in Šimanovci (established in 1985), Ašanja (established in 2001), and Ogar (in the process of being established).

The main activity of the institution is the collection, processing, preservation, and provision of library materials for use (books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials). In addition to its core function, the library also organizes cultural and educational programs aimed at promoting books as cultural assets and encouraging reading habits and the use of books.

The Public Library in Pećinci, together with its branches in Šimanovci and Ogar, has a collection of 31,000 books, as well as dozens of magazines and daily and weekly newspapers.

The books are organized into departments for adults, children, professional and scientific-popular literature, and a local history collection. The adult section includes domestic and foreign fiction, travel literature, essays, literary criticism, and memoirs.

The children’s section, in addition to children’s literature, picture books, and school reading materials for primary and secondary school, also contains a number of encyclopedic editions for younger readers.

The professional and scientific-popular literature section offers a wide selection of books providing citizens, students, and pupils with a rich source of information for general and professional education and development. It also includes extensive materials for writing theses, seminar papers, and other professional works in the fields of social, natural, and applied sciences.

Users have free access to all sections. Since 1998, the library has used computerized cataloguing of book data. The founder of the Public Library Pećinci is the Municipal Assembly of Pećinci.
