PUBLIC LIBRARY – Kula

PUBLIC LIBRARY – Kula

Organized professional library work dates back to 1953. Its development was preceded, immediately after liberation, by a large-scale book collection campaign based on donations from citizens. The collected books were supplemented with preserved volumes from the Civic School, as well as the remaining books from the “Kolo srpskih sestara” society. In 1961, the library became a fully independent institution with annual funding from the Municipal Assembly.

In 1988, the library was granted a building in the town center, with a total area of 600 m². The Public Library Kula consists of the central library in Kula and branches in Sivac, Crvenka, Kruščić, Ruski Krstur, and Lipar. The library’s collection comprises a total of 85,175 books: 74,648 in Serbian, 5,901 in Hungarian, 4,444 in Rusyn, and 182 in other languages.

The library organizes meetings with authors, book promotions, lectures, as well as literary and art competitions for primary and secondary school students. During 2001, the library organized six literary events, three lectures, and five exhibitions. Its guests included Goran Petrović, Vasa Pavković, Đorđo Sladoje, Miroslav Lazanski, Duško Trifunović, and others.
