CITY MUSEUM – Bačka Palanka

CITY MUSEUM – Bačka Palanka

The City Museum building was constructed in 1903, and the facility itself served an educational purpose until 2020, when reconstruction works were completed. That same year, on September 13, experts from the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments registered the building as a cultural asset.

Following the completed procedure, the building became the City Museum—a cultural property under preliminary legal protection. Experts from the Museum of Vojvodina prescribed technical protection measures and guidelines applied to all exhibits. The museum currently houses 5,530 items, classified into the following collections:

Prehistoric materials include bone awls, stone axes, clay weights, flint knives, a Neolithic altar, anthropomorphic figurines, and prehistoric pottery. Within the City Museum building, there is also an Atelier where art workshops for all age groups are held, as well as a school of drawing and painting as one of its regular activities.

The museum also houses the City Gallery, where visiting exhibitions rotate periodically. With the addition of a piano, this hall also serves as a concert venue, hosting lectures, seminars, panel discussions, workshops, presentations, and promotions.

The courtyard of the building has also been renovated and enclosed, making it suitable for various city events.

Due to the wide range of activities within the institution, the Cultural Center of Bačka Palanka records a large number of daily visitors.

The City Museum also includes a professional library.
