SAVA’S MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN – Neradin

SAVA’S MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN – Neradin

In 1931, Sava Jakovljević – Leberija, a native of Neradin who served as district chief in Irig, built a memorial fountain near the Irig–Krušedol road, close to Neradin, out of a desire to help his village. Part of the funds was secured with assistance from the Hygiene Institute in Novi Sad, while the rest was donated personally by Jakovljević.

Thus, in 1931, the famous Saint Nicholas Fountain began operating. Among the locals, it became better known as Savina Fountain, named after its benefactor, Sava Jakovljević – Leberija, who greatly contributed to his village through numerous charitable initiatives and also supported the construction of the local school.

The fountain was designed by architect Daka Popović, and the icon of Saint Nicholas above the fountain was painted by artist Vasa Eškićević. During World War II, the fountain was damaged, and after the war, a new icon of Saint Nicholas was painted by priest Mirko Žeravić.

The fountain serves as a source of water and has a religious character, which over time was reinforced by passing travelers. It is considered the most beautiful roadside fountain in the country.

Along the Irig–Krušedol road, in the immediate vicinity of Neradin.
