ĐIPŠA (DIVŠA) MONASTERY – Vizić

ĐIPŠA (DIVŠA) MONASTERY – Vizić

According to tradition, Divša Monastery (commonly known as Đipša) was founded by the Srem Despot Jovan Branković at the end of the 15th century. It is first mentioned in written sources at the end of the 16th century, which is also likely the period when the monastery church was built. From the beginning of World War I until 1922, the monastery was abandoned.

For a long time, the monastery was under the administration of Kuveždin Monastery, with a brief period of independence lasting 11 years (1922–1931). The monastery once housed a Four-Gospel Book written at the end of the 15th or the beginning of the 16th century. During World War II, the monastery church was completely destroyed, the monastery itself severely damaged, and the iconostasis dismantled and removed (partially preserved).

Since 1980, the monastery has been gradually restored, and today the complex consists of the Church of St. Nicholas and a two-story konak. The monastery is active and functions as a convent for women.
