Till 1990. the institution for culture and education was called The National university “Nikola Vlaški”. Since then it didn’t change only the name of the institution, but cultural and educational centre (CEC) Šid expended it’s work, so today there is a mosaic of cultural happenings of different contents and supports the affirmation and education of all those who want to contribute to the city culture and to the all Šid area. CEC Šid today works on: art and literal creativity, scene and theatre art, book publishing, brochures, musical books and other publications; publishing of the magazines and similar periodical publications, film showings, education of adults, retail trade with books, newspapers and writing material. CEC Šid among all the manifestations which organizes traditionally every year invites famous names from the cultural life in Serbia, and wider, and allows children, youth and all to people to show their talent and contribute to the cultural life. In the cooperation with the Institute office for culture in Vojvodina, CEC Šid, every year traditionally organizes next manifestations: art colony (on Sava Šumanović footsteps), “Jastrebićevi literature meetings”, “Višnjić days”, “St. Sava academy”, “St. Nicholas synod”, December,6th (the day when Šid was liberated), community meeting of the recitals and children drama work. All mentioned manifestations have one goal; promotion of the work of the important people of Šid and surroundings, and not to let people to forget important dates in Serbian history. Apart from that CEC Šid organizes a lot of celebrations, poet evenings, promotions, competitions… As the part of the CAC there is and works literature club “Filip Višnjić“, amateur theatre “Branislav Nušić”, and elocutionist club. In the building of CEC and as the part of it’s work there is and works the book shop “Dositej” where you can buy and order books and publishings of all the publishing houses in Serbia. In the whole treasury of culture in Vojvodina and Serbia every city, small and big, like Šid gives it’s contribution. CEC does just that to it’s limits. The value and size of that contribution do not always depend on the size of the town or citizens, but of the quality of the things which city or individual do not to allow for religious and material treasury to disappear from memory.
