The original orthodox church was built at the beginning of XVIII century and the inspection of eparchy mentions it as already existing and built church as the part of the fortress. The inspection said that the Morović fortress was built on the shore and that there lived the highest captain Jovan Monastrelija with an orthodox priest who was maintained by him. The area out of the fortress was settled with the mixed citizens, of catholic and orthodox beliefs. The church in Morović is dedicated to the Birth of the Most Holy Mother, and it was sanctified by Sofronije Bački. In 1760. the church was restored, and sanctified by Pavle Nenadović on June, 25.1766. During 1765/1766 the iconostasis for the church was painted. It is believed that it was painted by the Russian artist Vasilije Romanovič. The iconostasis was small. The thing that attracts the attention of the experts is the icon on this iconostasis which represents the scene how St. Nicolas is giving back eye-sight to Stefan Dečanski.
