The winegrowing is the branch of agriculture which provides existence, but also the fame to people of Karlovci during many centuries. The wine also occupies those who come to live in Karlovci by chance. It was the same with Mr Milan Pertović. He moved to Karlovci in 1994. The house he bought for his family owned a vineyard. Once he started growing grapes there was no return. And so, step by step, he raised the vineyards whose complete surface is 5 ha. Wine cellar Pertović produces 20.000 l of wine annually. It is about white sorts like Italian Riesling and Sila, but also about reds like cabernet and merlot. Following the instructions of old, experienced people in Karlovci, since last year he started producing bermet, the wine which represents a synonym for Karlovci. Milan, of all his wines, separates cabernet, excellent dry black wine, and sila, relatively newer sort of white wine which began from famous chardonnay and kevedinka. It is about white wine of soft aroma, but not with so strong acid, the best choice for the lovers of white wine. Sila from Pertović wine cellar got the title of “Quality Champion” of Novi Sad Fair in 2005. It is planned to plant new vineyards up to 10 ha surface. Because it is a pretty young wine cellar, the first goal of Mr Pertović is to improve the quality of his wines from year to year, and then, when there are good conditions, to enlarge the wine amount which is produced in his cellar.
