NATIONAL MUSEUM – Zrenjanin
Početna / Experiences / NATIONAL MUSEUM – Zrenjanin
The National Museum Zrenjanin is classified as a complex-type museum institution with a local focus, and through its research activities covers the area of central Banat. This organizational structure has allowed the rich cultural heritage of the region—spanning nature, archaeology, ethnology, art, and history—to be systematically preserved and professionally processed within a specialized institution staffed by experts in all necessary fields.
The museum’s collections, spread across five departments, house over 33,000 objects. Among the most notable collections are: cold and firearms weapons, goldsmiths’ tools, the fine arts collection with an important corpus of 18th- and 19th-century paintings, jewelry from prehistory and the Middle Ages, and an ornithological collection.
The museum also has an educational and information service, a documentation center, restoration and conservation workshops, a photography department, and a carpentry workshop. A professional library with over 5,000 titles is also part of the museum.
The permanent exhibition space covers 1,200 m². On the first floor, visitors can explore the Art section of the permanent exhibition, which includes two segments: fine arts and applied arts. The first floor also houses the Sports Room. The second floor of the museum contains the Natural History, Archaeology, History, and Ethnology departments. Collections are presented both within the permanent exhibition and through thematic exhibitions.
Currently, the Zrenjanin National Museum also operates three exhibition spaces on the ground floor: the Salon, the Small Salon, and the Museum Hall, which has been adapted for exhibitions. The Salon, accessible from the city square, covers 200 m² and is equipped with modern technology, climate control, and lighting, making it the city’s most prestigious exhibition space. The museum has its own security service with video surveillance.
In 2006, the Zrenjanin National Museum was recognized as the best museum in Serbia due to its large number of visitors—over 85,000 that year—34 organized thematic exhibitions, and renovated permanent displays.
