Početna / Experiences / HISTORICAL ARCHIVE ZRENJANIN – Zrenjanin
The Historical Archive of Zrenjanin was established on September 1, 1947, with the mission to collect, classify, preserve, and make accessible to the public written archival materials from the Zrenjanin municipality. Initially, it was housed in the old museum building near the large bridge, and in early 1952 it moved to the left wing of the City Hall, where it remains today. The founder of the Archive was Toma Rajić.
The institution has undergone several name changes while continuously strengthening its organizational structure and staff. The oldest part of the Archive is the department for organizing and processing archival materials, from which other sections later developed. The Archive organizes its holdings into fonds, groups, and collections.
It also houses a rich library, containing numerous rare books, the oldest of which was printed in Leipzig in 1573. To better inform the public about the Archive’s work, a publishing program was established. In addition to the edition “Archival Materials”, published between 1954 and 1957, the Archive also issued several internal catalogs to facilitate efficient navigation through the extensive written records documenting the life and work of people in this region.
