NATIONAL THEATRE – Kikinda

The National Theatre in Kikinda was founded in 1950 as the National Amateur Theatre. Since 1992, it has operated as a professional theatre under the name National Theatre – Kikinda. The theatre’s main activity is the preparation and staging of theatrical productions. Each season, it stages between four and five premieres and gives approximately 100 performances. Regular performances take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays, although additional performances are organised to meet audience needs, particularly those of children and young people. The National Theatre – Kikinda offers a diverse repertoire of theatrical genres and forms of expression, with the exception of experimental theatre. The theatre’s potential audience in Kikinda is estimated at around 10% of the town’s total population, or approximately 7,000 people. However, a more realistic estimate, depending on the quality and genre of each production, puts the potential audience at around 4,000 people. A further 2,000 potential spectators may be reached through touring performances. These estimates refer to the audience potential for a single performance. The theatre’s primary catchment area includes the Municipality of Kikinda and the North Banat District. Through regular exchanges and cooperation with other theatres, its reach extends across the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Through its artistic work, the theatre has also attracted a degree of audience interest throughout Serbia and Montenegro. It increasingly performs abroad, where a significant proportion of its audience consists of members of the Serbian diaspora.
