More than 150 years after the death of the father of Serbian drama, Jovan Sterija Popović, the house on St. Teodor Square in Vršac, where this prominent local lived and worked, finally found its proper purpose—it became the Sterija Museum.
The space is furnished with the original furniture used by the famous writer, including his writing desk, where he composed dramas and comedies. Original manuscripts of ’Pokondirena tikva’ (The Conceited Pumpkin), “Zla žena ”(The evil woman), “Kir Janja”, “ Laža i paralaža” (False and Deceitful), and many other works by Sterija are displayed in glass cases in the memorial room. The walls feature framed facsimiles and documents, alongside photographs and a portrait of Sterija painted by Uroš Predić.
