Početna / Experiences / CITY MUSEUM – COLLECTION OF FOREIGN ART- Novi Sad
In 1966, Dr. Branko Ilić, a physician and avid art collector, donated his art collection to Novi Sad and Vojvodina. The collection originally comprised 136 paintings by foreign masters, 279 objects and sculptures, stylistic furniture, and other applied art pieces. Dr. Ilić collected works for several decades, preserving creations by artists from France, Germany, Italy, and Austria, dating from the 16th to the end of the 19th century.
On 400 square meters, two-thirds of the collection is on display, representing the largest public exhibition of foreign art in Serbia. Notable works include pieces attributed to Rembrandt, Rubens, and their followers, believed to be authentic. The Branko Ilić Collection is a special legacy of the City Museum of Novi Sad and has been open to the public since 1968.
The collection is housed in a building constructed in 1903, designed by Viennese architect Franz Vorhude, combining elements of Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau.
