MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF VOJVODINA – Novi Sad

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF VOJVODINA – Novi Sad

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina is headquartered in a building designed in 1959 by architect Ivo Vitić for the former Museum of the Socialist Revolution. Today, both the Museum of Vojvodina and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina operate in the same building, which is also known for its beautiful atrium.

It was established on February 1, 1966, as the Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts – Novi Sad. Over the decades, the museum’s name and scope of work have changed, and since 1996, the gallery’s activities have expanded to include museological work, encompassing contemporary art theories and practices.

Due to a lack of space, exhibition and publishing activities began only in 1969 in temporary premises in Novi Sad. In 1984, the museum moved into the “Sports and Business Center Vojvodina,” where it remained until 1999, developing its core research and museological activities. After 1999, exhibitions were organized in other institutions until it returned to the building of the former Museum of the Socialist Revolution.
