THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH – Ečka

In the church are valuable works of the painters of famous Van de Vene Flemish school. This church was built by Ečka landowner Sigmund Lazar in 1884., on the place of the old temple, burnt in 1836. It represents the one nave building with the u-turn apse and high belfry. The whole decoration was made by Jožef Gojgner, but today there stayed only the fragments. On the walls between the windows there are four icons made in oil on canvas technique, and they are from the Emperor Treasury in Wien. The painting are said to be painted by the most famous Wien painter of that time Mulberč. The interior of the church keeps a few paintings in oil in canvas technique from XII century, work of the Flemish painters. The painting on the main altar “The Crucifixion of Jesus” was made by the Holland master Adolf Van der Vene (1828 – 1911). On the north the church closes main Ečka street and is very near by the famous castle “Kaštel Ečka”.
