The Gallery of Fine Arts was opened in October 1974 as a gift from the collector Rajko Mamuzić (1914–1994) to the city of Novi Sad. The collection is housed in a representative building constructed in 1928–29, designed by Novi Sad architects Lazar Dunđerski and Filip Šmit.
The artistic holdings of the collection include over five hundred works—paintings, prints, and sculptures—by 40 academic artists of the first generation of postwar Yugoslav painting. The collection features some of the leading artists of contemporary Yugoslav painting of the second half of the 20th century, including Lazar Vozarević, Lazar Vujaklija, Boža Ilić, Mladen Srbinović, Boško Petrović, Mario Maskareli, Petar Omčikus, Zoran Petrović, Slava Bogojević, Aleksandar Luković, and others.
The sculpture collection contains works by Nikola Jovanović, Jovan Soldatović, Matija Vuković, and Aleksandar Zarin. This unique collection of domestic postwar painting also highlights female artists active during this period, including Ksenija Divjak, Olivera Kangira, Ljubinka Jovanović, Majda Kurnik, Kosa Bokšan, Ljubica Sokić, and sculptor Angelina Gatalica.
In addition to its permanent collection, the gallery organizes occasional group and solo exhibitions featuring the collection’s artists, accompanied by specially printed catalogues.
