“MILAN KONJOVIĆ” GALLERY – Sombor

“MILAN KONJOVIĆ” GALLERY – Sombor

The “Milan Konjović” Gallery was founded in 1964 and opened to the public in September 1966. The collection originated from a bequest of five hundred paintings by Milan Konjović (1898–1993), which the artist donated to his hometown. The gallery has since acquired around 250 additional works by this prolific artist, whose pieces have been exhibited in over 150 solo exhibitions both in Serbia and abroad.

The permanent exhibition presents Konjović’s artistic work in a monographic manner, covering a long period from 1913 to 1990, in oil, pastel, watercolor, drawing, and tapestry. The permanent display is flexible, with occasional thematic exhibitions related to the life and work of the Sombor-born painter.

The collection is housed in a Baroque-style house built in 1838 for pharmacist Turner and adapted for the gallery’s needs. In addition to a large number of paintings, the gallery holds extensive documentation of its activities and a complete bibliographic collection on Milan Konjović, organized chronologically through professional catalogs, albums, and numerous monographic publications about the artist.
