”ŠTEFAN HOMOLA” LIBRARY – Bački Petrovac

The founding of the Slovak Library in 1845 was connected with the work of the church Sunday school in Bački Petrovac, led by Štefan Homola. The library was the first public institution of its kind in this region inhabited by Slovaks.

At the beginning, it had 130 books, while today it holds around 40,000 titles, including a local history collection of the Slovaks of Vojvodina containing over 5,000 books and periodicals in the Slovak language, as well as a collection of old and rare books with more than 2,000 volumes. The oldest book dates back to 1690.
