TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE COMPLEX – Bački Petrovac

The Traditional Architecture Complex includes the Oldest House, a cultural monument of exceptional importance, recognized as an immovable cultural heritage site of the Republic of Serbia and protected by the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments since 1965. The house dates back to the second half of the 18th century, and its surroundings form a museum complex.

It is furnished with authentic pieces of furniture, kitchen utensils, and other household items. The house is constructed of wattle-and-daub and covered with reed. Typical features of houses from this period include small windows, low doors, and small rooms that could be easily heated. Inside, there were two village stoves used to burn everything from corn husks and stalks to wood, and they also served for cooking food.

Next to the house is a granary on sleds and a Mnjač, a device for processing flax, dating from 1862–63. The Mnjač is also an immovable cultural property of the Republic of Serbia, protected by the Provincial Institute, and represents a unique example of traditional technology—the only one of its kind preserved in Vojvodina and beyond.
