TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE COMPLEX – Bački Petrovac

In the Traditional architecture complex, there is the oldest house in Petrovac – a cultural monument of exceptional importance, which represents the immovable cultural property of the Republic of Serbia and has been under the protection of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments since 1965. The house dates from the second half of the 18th century and its surroundings are a museum complex. It is equipped with authentic pieces of furniture, kitchen utensils and other furniture. It is made of clay material, covered with reeds. The appearance of the house in that period is characterized by small windows, small, low doors and small rooms that could be easily heated. There are two furnaces in the house, in which everything was burned, from all sorts of plants and wood, and they were also used for preparing food.

Next to the house there is a granary on sledges and Mnač – a hemp kneading mechanism, which dates from 1862/63. Mnač also represents an immovable cultural asset of the Republic of Serbia, is under the protection of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and is an invention of folk technique, the only one of its kind preserved in Vojvodina and beyond.
