”AHOJ” GALLERY – Bački Petrovac

In the municipality of Bački Petrovac, located in the southern part of Bačka, the “Ahoj” Association has existed for many years as an artistic, spiritual, and economic hub for the Slovak community of Vojvodina. The association is engaged in preserving and promoting traditional crafts and handiwork, maintaining traditional cuisine and a healthy environment, educating about rural development, organizing schools of old crafts and workshops, producing souvenirs, and promoting rural tourism. It brings together artists, artisans, farmers, and all interested local residents.
Within the premises of the “Ahoj” Association, a school of traditional crafts was also established. Guided by a vision to restore former glory and accelerate the revival of nearly forgotten crafts, the “Ahoj” Gallery allows tourists to access original items of exceptional craftsmanship and authentic value. Visitors can even participate in making desired items or souvenirs with the help of instructors.
In the center of Bački Petrovac, “Ahoj” opened a gallery—an “ethno corner”—featuring applied art inspired by Slovak cultural heritage. Items are made from cornhusks, glass is painted, weaving and braiding are practiced, tablecloths and pillowcases are embroidered, and decorative brooms are created. The highly fertile plains of Bački Petrovac shaped the local way of life, and one of the area’s most famous agricultural products is the broom-corn, making the locals among the largest broom exporters in Europe. Brooms in the “Ahoj” Gallery come in various sizes and are decorated with aprons and interesting details.
