BLACKSMITH WORKSHOP – Bačka Topola

Due to the market character of the city, blacksmiths in Bačka Topola have always been considered as extraordinary craftsmen. At least thirty-two blacksmith shops functioned in the city in the forties of the twentieth century. Their activity was very diverse, they had dealt with many things, from farriery to horse carriages making. Since carriages were jointly crafted by blacksmiths and wheelwrights ( metal parts were made by blacksmiths and wooden parts by wheelwrights).The workshops were mainly divided into two parts. So this workshop, which was built in the second half of the nineteenth century, and which today functions as a museum was divided in that manner. The central place is occupied by blacksmith blowpipe and an annealing furnace.

Tools exposed round them, are vehicular and beautiful fittings, wrought iron, etc. In the second, wheelwright᾽s side of the workshop wright counter, tools, and various types of wagon wheels are located. The carriage has also been exhibited in the workshop and has been preserved in excellent condition.
