The museum is probably located in the oldest building in the city, in the former Kray-castle. The building was built by Count Pal Kray in 1802.In the 1990s it had been listed among the monuments of special value, and thus began the reconstruction of the building. The museum is located on the first floor and the ground floor serves as an exhibition space and marriage room as well.
Permanent exhibitions:
Art exhibition – held in two rooms, at about 50m2 the works of art of former artists related to Bačka Topola are exposed.
Native and Literary setting – books, documents and publications that are directly related to our city are exposed .
Biological setting – diorama is set here depicting the flora and fauna of the Krivaja valley, a collection of insects, and a collection that shows the rare and endangered plant species.
Archaeological exhibition – archaeological material collected in the territory of Bačka Topola from the Stone Age, the Sarmatians and Avar period , as well as from the Middle Ages – jewelry, weapons and tools made of bone, bronze, iron, ceramics are exposed.
The historic setting – exposed documents are showing the history of the city starting from resettlement in 1750: important dates and events are marked showing customs, economy.
Memorial Room Dr Hadži Janoš and Balint Fernbach
Dr. Hadži Janoš was born in 1851. He worked as a doctor, and later as a diplomat .He was a deputy in the Hungarian Parliament. He devoted his lifetime to the prosperity of the city. He is the founder of the volunteer fire association. After his death, in gratitude for his service, the citizens erected him a monument . Even today people talk about him with great respect.
Fernbach Balint was a very famous scientist and traveler from Bačka Topola. He travelled through vast territories in Africa. He was hunting and conducting botanical researches for the Hungarian National Museum. A part of the objects and trophies which were brought from his travels, can be seen at this memorial room.
