The Hungarian Cultural Center “Népkör” was founded on January 20, 1872, and serves as the cultural hub for Hungarians in northern Vojvodina, hosting a wide range of activities aimed at preserving various traditions. It currently serves as a second home for nearly 500 young talents. This year, it will begin its 146th season. In 2002, the Cultural Center received the Pro Urbe Award from the City of Subotica, and in 2011, it was honored with the Minority Award of the Republic of Hungary—an acknowledgment of its dedication and a testament to its long-standing role as a proud guardian of traditions for over 145 years.
Since 2002, the Hungarian Cultural Center Népkör, in collaboration with Summerfest from Százhalombatta and the local government of Subotica, has organized the Interethno Festival every August. Culture, traditions, and cultural values—these three concepts define one of the most significant events in Vojvodina dedicated to the preservation of traditions. The festival has grown step by step and has consistently emphasized the importance of folklore and folk art by promoting dance and music ensembles that perform traditional music and folk dances.
